COVID Surge Forces Berrien Trial Court to Cancel All Jury Trials Through November

Those with assigned jury duty in Berrien County over the next month are getting a pass thanks to the recent surge in the coronavirus pandemic numbers across the region, because all jury trails are being suspended until the end of November.

Berrien County Trial Court officials have issued a special announcement regarding the current conditions. Here is what the court has issued in their public announcement release:

As a result of a recent increase in positive COVID tests in Berrien County, the Trial Court is suspending all jury trials until at least November 27, 2020. There is no need for jurors scheduled for the weeks of November 2nd, 9th, 16th or 23rd to call or report for service. Jurors scheduled on or after November 30, 2020 should anticipate serving as originally scheduled.

Ordinarily, jurors who are qualified to serve are instructed to call the Jury Hotline at 269-982-0392 or 888-323-5879 (toll free) after 5:30 pm each night of their week of service to see if their candidate number is required to report the following morning. Due to the suspension of all jury trials through November, nobody will be required to call that number through at least November 27th. Stay tuned.
