The Creative Landscaping design team is expanding with the addition of Shannon Godby. Godby joins designer and company co-owner Peg Bormann in developing residential and commercial landscape plans for clients of the Berrien Springs-based firm.
Godby, who recently moved to Michigan from Illinois, brings a wide range of horticulture and landscape design training and experience to the company. She holds two Associate of Applied Science degrees in General Horticulture and Landscape Design from Kishwaukee College, and is certified through the Illinois Master Gardener program.
As a horticulturalist with Prairieview Golf Club in Byron, Illinois, Godby oversaw the redesign and maintenance of extensive planting beds on the grounds. Her work for Distinctive Gardens in Dixon included assisting with landscape installations, and maintaining demonstration gardens and retail greenhouse plants. Immediately before moving to Michigan, she was the owner-operator of Longview Designs, a landscape design firm. While in Illinois, she also worked closely with The Nature Conservancy in Franklin Grove through stewardship of a portion of the Nachusa Grasslands.
Godby looks forward to incorporating her expertise in native plants and natural ecosystems into her work with Creative Landscaping clients. She tells us, “I fell in love with the prairie shortly after moving to Illinois in 1997, and have had a growing passion and curiosity about all types of native plants and naturalized landscaping practices ever since. I’m excited to be helping Creative Landscaping clients in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana make the most of their outdoor spaces.”
