Dowagiac Farm & Artisan Market Welcomes Earl’s BBQ to the Mix

A renowned local vendor will be new to the mix when the Dowagiac Farm & Artisan Market kicks off season number six next month, and thanks to some amazing aromas emanating from his booth, you likely won’t be able to miss him once you get there.

The Dowagiac Farm & Artisan Market is cultivating plans to launch its sixth season in downtown Dowagiac in June, as it welcomes Earl’s BBQ on Saturdays.

Vickie Phillipson, Program Director for the Dowagiac Downtown Development Authority says that growers and artisans can reserve their space now for the market which re-opens for the first time in 2019 on Saturday, June 1st, and will continue through the second week of October.  The market will be open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 am until 2pm.

Phillipson says growers and artisans can register to participate in the market by contacting her at (269) 782-8212 or by e-mail at Vphillipson@Dowagiac.org. Working with her is Steve Arseneau, director of the Dowagiac Area History Museum.

Phillipson says the Farm & Artisan Market will resume its location within the downtown sector at Division and Railroad streets, upon the lawn of the Dowagiac Area History Museum.  The location provides easy access and visibility to M-62, which is one of the major arteries coming into the city.

Farmers, backyard growers, businesses and local artisans all have the opportunity on Saturdays and Wednesdays to sell their fruit and produce, annuals and perennials, baked goods, and other Michigan or hand-made products downtown.

Phillipson says she is pleased to welcome Earl Collins to the market, beginning the second Saturday of June, noting, “Earl is well known in the community for his rib tips, barbecued chicken and pulled pork.” She adds, “Sides will also be available, including coleslaw and baked beans, which visitors to the market can enjoy on site or take home with them.”

Returning to the market are:

  • Sprague Farms, featuring vegetables, fruit and fresh-cut flowers
  • Suellen Gause, original photography, prints and notecards
  • Creekside Greenhouse, perennials and annuals
  • Dussel’s Farm Market & Greenhouses, perennials and annuals
