Dramatic Crash Destroys Front of Cressy Real Estate Office in SJ

Timing is everything. Just ask the crew at Cressy & Everett Real Estate on Red Arrow Highway in St. Joseph. The business had barely been closed for the evening with the office administrator leaving around 5pm, when a short while later a car barreled out of control and smashed into the front of the building virtually head on, taking out several major windows, brick work and more at the brokerage.

Fortunately, nobody was in the real estate building at 3687 S. Lakeshore Drive (also Red Arrow Highway) at the time of the crash around 5:45pm, leaving quite a spectacle for commuters heading home for the evening.

The building had just been remodeled in the past year or so, turning it into a showcase for available properties in the region for the Cressy & Everett team, and it will take a substantial amount of repair to resolve the damage. Nevertheless, staff members say that the office will be open for business first thing in the morning as usual.

From those on the scene word comes that apparently, a concerned driver was racing north on Red Arrow on the way to see a hospitalized friend when he inadvertently ran a red light at Red Arrow and Maiden Lane near the Bosch Braking Systems plant and had to swerve to avoid hitting a westbound car on Maiden Lane turning north onto Red Arrow and ended up slamming into the Cressy & Everett building.

Timing was in Lisa Katowich’s favor as well this evening, inasmuch as she, a Realtor at Cressy & Everett, was originally slated to be in a couple of meetings in the conference room of the building this evening at the time of the accident, but had to move the meetings due to oral surgery today, and was actually at home with an ice pack on her face at the time of the crash instead.

The driver was reportedly disoriented following the crash, but not seriously hurt. He was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, just the same. Nobody else was involved directly in the crash at the empty building, so nobody else was injured in the bizarre accident.
