Edgewater Resources Hosts Protect Your Property From High Water Webinar

If your home, business or other enterprise is increasingly threatened by rising waters in Michigan’s Great Southwest, Greg Weykamp of Edgewater Resources in St. Joseph has a free public webinar hosted by the Great Lakes Coalition titled, “Protect your Property from High Water.”

Weykamp, President and Principal of Edgewater Resources, will be a presenter for the free public webinar taking place tomorrow, Friday, June 19th, at 11:30am. The webinar will provide critical information to homeowners, businesses, and municipalities at risk of experiencing property loss due to erosion. The webinar will be the third in a series dedicated to educating lakefront property owners on how to preserve their property in times of high water. Topics will include water level forecasts, shoreline protection strategies and solutions, and permitting processes.

Weykamp will provide attendees with long and short-term shoreline protection strategies and solutions with approximate costs and the variation of permissible remediation techniques by state. He suggests, “It’s crucial for landowners to have a plan in place before the water reaches them. They should be aware of the options available to them, how much funding they may need, where grant funds may be available, and most importantly, they must understand the permitting process can take time.”

Additional presenters include John Allis, PE, Chief of the Great Lakes Hydraulics and Hydrology Office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and Diana Koslowski of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo office. Mr. Allis will offer the latest water level forecasts for the next 12 months to help attendees assess individual risk. Ms. Kowslowski will outline permitting requirements and regulatory processes that need to be followed ahead of work being done at a property.

Over 400 have attended the groups’ two previous webinars. Ron Wilson of the Great Lakes Coalition says, “Cottage owners and communities along the Great Lakes are scrambling to find answers to the rapid increase in water levels and the best techniques to protect their cottages, roads, and parks.”

The group plans to host a fourth webinar in July. The topic will be determined by recommendations made by attendees. Attendees are encouraged to register at this link:
