Comcast crews in Cass County will be down one or two vehicles until repairs can be made following a crash on M-51 in Pokagon Township during the dinner hour last night which sent a Decatur woman to the hospital.
Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke reports his office was called to the scene of the crash Wednesday night, November 11th, shortly after 6pm on reports of an injury crash on M-51 near Pokagon Street in Pokagon Township
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found that the driver of the vehicle, 32-year old Hilary Schreuder from Decatur, had been traveling towards Dowagiac on M-51 when she crashed into a parked Comcast van, triggering a chain reaction crash that sent the Comcast van into a second van. There was no immediate indication if that second van was also a Comcast service vehicle or not.
Schreuder was taken to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for treatment of her injuries.
Behnke reports that the workers for Comcast were not in the vehicle at the time of the crash, however, their safety lights had been activated to signal their presence in a parked position.
Behnke says that seat belts were worn and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. His Deputies were assisted on the scene by Pride Care Ambulance and the Dowagiac Fire Department. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
