Fate of Fairplain Neighborhood Supermarket Up in the Air

A neighborhood grocery store in the Fairplain area that has been closed for several weeks now is raising eyebrows of residents nearby who are wondering about the fate of the retailer.

Harry Toor has operated D&M Supermarket at 130 W. Napier Avenue for more than 17 years, but the business has been shuttered for several weeks now with no sign of activity in or around the place since a handmade sign went into the window on the front door.

That sign, created with a personal printer, says simply: “Sorry Closed for Renovations Opening Back Soon.”

Despite the signage, neighbors say they have seen no contractor activity on the site, and the phone has been disconnected, leaving no way to contact Toor or his employees for an update.

D&M has been a neighborhood staple dating all the way back to 2003, and some of the people who travel that neighborhood have been asking questions about Harry’s well-being and the future of the supermarket.

Several vendors who routinely service the retailer are also scratching their heads and have said they’re not sure what the status of the store is either.

No further information is available on the future of D&M Supermarket in the strip center called the Napier & Colfax Plaza.
