First look at workers whose tips will be ‘tax exempt’: Treasury Dept List

no tax on tips

While the government was mostly shut down for the weekend for Labor Day, the Treasury Department released the first detailed list of occupations which will be ‘tax exempt’ for tips received by workers.  And the list is quite extensive–almost 70 specific job titles.  It was published by the DC-based website AXIOS on Monday.

Treasury outlined eight broad categories of workers and provided dozens of examples of job titles that would not have to pay income taxes on tips.  There are said to be dollar limits as well, however those were not covered in the weekend list from Treasury.
