Former St. Joseph City Commission Jeff Richards has died. Richards retired from the commission last year after serving the city for 37 years. Former Mayor Mike Garey tells us Richards was a mentor who was a friend to the city and who always listened first. Garey remembers Richards as a “great sounding board” with an excellent sense of humor. He says Richards always wanted to hear everyone’s thoughts on the issues. He was also proud of MSU. Former St. Joseph City Manager Frank Walsh said on Facebook Richards “was known for his kindness, generosity, and love for animals.” He adds, “Those who knew Jeff, loved Jeff.” Richards was a veterinarian for 50 years. When he was honored by the commission in October, Richards said he wanted to thank his family first.
