While gasoline prices in Michigan are up nearly a dime from last week, you might like to know that gas is still 55-cents less per gallon than it was at this same time a year ago. That’s the latest from AAA the Auto Club whose survey says that prices across the state are up 9-cents compared to a week ago, leaving prices 3-cents higher than this time last month, but still substantially lower than last December.
Drivers are now paying an average of $31 for a 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $13 from when prices were at their highest last July.
Since mid-November, domestic daily crude prices have steadily increased toward $45 per barrel, contributing to pump prices rising across the country in just this last week. However, low demand will likely limit price gains, with the latest report from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) showing that demand decreased from 8.13 million barrels per day to 7.97 million last week – the lowest reading since early June.
Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group, says, “As demand continues to decline into the winter driving season, Michigan drivers should expect gas prices to remain lower when compared to last year’s pump prices.”
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price increased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $2.03 per gallon, 4-cents more than last week’s average but still 57-cents less than this time last year.
