The GhostLight Theatre wraps up its 2025 Summer Season with the Cold War–era musical Chess, running August 14–24 at its Black Box Theatre in Benton Harbor. The production features music by ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, lyrics by Tim Rice, and a book by Richard Nelson.
Directed by Artistic Director Paul Mow with choreography by Paige Mulick, Chess blends political intrigue, romantic tension, and a global chess championship in a rarely staged, musically ambitious work. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
“This is not a show many smaller theatre companies attempt,” said Mow. “We believe our audiences are ready for something bold and musically riveting.”
The cast includes Dan Maxon as Anatoly, Julie Peterson as Florence, Michael Finchum as Freddie, and Kate Louise Acosta as Svetlana, along with a full ensemble and live orchestra.
Tickets are $32 for general admission, $25 for seniors, and $20 for students 18 and under. The GhostLight Theatre is located at 101 Hinkley Street, Benton Harbor.
