GhostLight Theatre Hosts Three Summer Camps

Summer is a time for exploration, fun, and performing! The GhostLight Theatre of Benton Harbor is offering three different Summer Camps in 2022, for youth ranging from six years of age through eleventh grade.

‘CircEsteem Kids’ is a five day day camp offered to kids who wish to build and develop self esteem and mutual respect through the arts, with practice and performance. This camp is open to students ages six to sixteen, and will be taught by professionals of CircEsteem Chicago, an organization that uses the power of performing arts to unite youth from all backgrounds and identities in personal growth and teamwork. The camp will run from June 20th – 24th, and costs $250 per student. Scholarship information and the application form can be found at ghostlightbh.com/camps. The deadline to apply is June 15th.

In collaboration with The Citadel Dance & Music Center, Paul Mow and Lari Lawrence-Gist are offering B.E.S.T: Building Excellence through Summer Theatre, June 27th – July 1st, for students ages eleven through nineteen. This camp will help students learn how to prepare for an audition as well as perfect their resume (and have professional headshots taken!) For a registration fee of $350, these talented instructors will help your child with their triple threat: dance, acting, and singing. Dance study will include ballet, tap, and jazz, along with improv for actors, character development, diction, and more. Students must register to audition for this camp, and auditions will be held on April 26th at 6 p.m. Find the registration form and application here.

The last week in July will hold the ‘Discover Your Voice’ Camp, and it teaches students to “Learn to Write Like Shakespeare”. July 25th – 29th will showcase instructor Ken Smith, and is open to students from seventh grade to eleventh grade. This learning experience is only open to twelve students, so register soon. The registration fee is $100 per student, and scholarships are available. Closing the camp, there will be a “Reader’s Theatre” presentation open to the public on Friday, July 29th.

The GhostLight Theatre is located at 101 Hinkley Street in Benton Harbor, and has been open since 2019. Their mission is to “create events where children and adults are more than observers, and become active participants in the creation and exploration of a variety of performance media”. They have previously received the Golden Acorn Award for Arts & Innovation from the Berrien Community Foundation, and continue to offer an outlet for inspiration and artistry in our community.
