A longtime optical center in St. Joseph is approaching the half-century mark with a new name and a reinvigorated team of optometrists who own the practice and are charting its course for the future.
Doctor Byers and Doctor Spaude are the ‘doctors in the house’ at 2603 Niles Avenue, the home of Dr. Flood’s Vision Center since 2010. The doctors told MOTM that the strong heritage of the practice is the perfect launching pad for the future:
“After 45 years in business as Dr. Flood’s Vision Center and Flood’s Vision Center, the time has come to rebrand as Go Vision. It’s an exciting change as we plan to go ahead with our vision for the future (pun intended) with a name that pays homage to Dr. Flood. Inf fact ‘Doc’ picked our GoVision.com domain many years ago. while setting us up for the direction in which we are headed.”
Founded in 1980 by Dr. Robert Flood, Flood’s Vision Center has seen a lot of changes over the years. Originally located on Napier near the then-thriving Orchards Mall in Benton Harbor, Flood’s Vision Center grew into a sprawling cedar clad multi-doctor eye care clinic. In 2010 the office was relocated to its new building at 2603 Niles Ave in Saint Joseph.
Dr. Byers began his career at Flood’s Vision Center in 2016 and purchased the practice in 2018, working alongside Dr. Flood until his retirement in 2024.
Dr. Byers reflects, “I am grateful to Dr. Flood for the opportunity to practice and live here in Southwest Michigan, and Dr. Spaude has been a great colleague these past two years.”
Dr. Spaude joined the practice in 2023 and partnered with Dr. Byers in 2025.
Spaude says “I have learned a lot from Dr. Flood and look forward to continuing what he started by offering the best quality eye care, staying up to date with the latest research and technology in the industry, as well as offering the best selection of glasses and contact lenses we can.”
Go Vision plans to continue offering custom optical options as well as great value in every exam and pair of glasses. The goal is to continue growing their presence as eye care providers by offering outstanding nonsurgical glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration care, as well as ocular urgent care by managing red eyes, scratched eyes, puffy lids or foreign object removal.
Go Vision is also highlighting their extensive contact lens options from traditional soft contacts to custom lenses used to treat reduced vision from medical conditions like keratoconus, scarring, transplants or even dryness.
