Green Light for Fireworks: South Haven’s ‘Light Up the Lake’ Will Proceed

The City of South Haven announced this afternoon that they will proceed with the annual “Light Up the Lake” fireworks display from the South Haven north pier. The city had been considering the cancellation of the event based on reportedly high water levels on and near the pier that would have prevented the fireworks from being staged and fired from the pier structure.

The “Light Up the Lake” Fireworks event will begin at dusk (approximately 10:30 p.m.) on Wednesday, July 3rd. Though the fireworks are launched from the South Haven north pier, viewing from many different areas of the city is possible.

The schedule of events related to “Light Up the Lake” fireworks:

  • The fireworks display will begin at dusk (approximately 10:30 p.m.) and last approximately 20 minutes. (Synched with CW7)
  • The Dyckman Avenue drawbridge will operate on its regular schedule until approximately 11:30 p.m. At this time, it will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic to allow boat traffic on the Black River to pass. It will remain raised (upright position) until the last boat is through.
  • Be aware of uniformed law enforcement officials who will be facilitating an orderly exodus from the event.  Strictly adhere to their directions.
  • COSY will be broadcasting throughout the day with “Traffic Alerts” as needed.  Please monitor your radio for updates.
  • Parking is $10.00 at city-operated beach parking lots unless passes are displayed.
  • Per city ordinance, no alcoholic beverages are allowed on any public beach or city-owned property. Animals are prohibited at public beaches.

The Independence Day Parade begins at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4th and is sponsored by the South Haven Rotary Club, South Haven Kiwanis Club, the South Haven Tribune and the Herald-Palladium. Parade registration and staging will be in the rear parking lot of South Haven High School. The parade route is Elkenburg to Kalamazoo St to Phoenix St to Broadway Ave to Michigan Ave to Center St, ending at the high school.
