It’s almost time for the 38th annual Hartford Strawberry Festival.

The big event is set for next Friday and Saturday, and festival chair Patty Schroeder tells us there will be plenty happening.

“Of course we always have our parades and we’ll have live music,” Schroeder said. “John Dudley the magician will be back again this year. We have a pie eating contest, carnival rides. This year new we have a street dance and of course all of our food and our craft vendors will be there.”

Schroeder says the parades are always a popular attraction.

“With a kiddie parade on Friday at 6 p.m. and it will be going down Main Street and end up at Ely Park. Then on Saturday, the big name event, the main parade will be at 12 and that comes down Main Street as well.”

Of course, all of the strawberries available around town are a big draw. On a related note, we asked Schroeder what the most popular activity is.

“Definitely the pie eating contest has really grown and everybody loves to just jump in and see who comes out the winner.”

The street dance with live music will close out the festival at Ely Park.

Schroeder says the festival is all about celebrating those beautiful strawberry fields nearby. Thousands of people are expected to head to Hartford next weekend for one of Southwest Michigan’s premier summer events.
