Hearing Life Through Three Layers of Blankets Will Give You the Blues

If it sounds like everything you hear is being filtered through three layers of blankets, maybe its because you’re still bundled up like a winter cocoon. If, however, it sounds like everything you hear is being filtered through three layers of blankets and there’s actually nothing covering your ears it really is time for a visit to Dr. Gyl Kasewurm and the team at Dr. Kasewurm’s Professional Hearing Services in St. Joseph.  Wait. Before you arbitrarily dismiss that advice, read just a little bit more.

You. Are. Not. Alone.

Many people realize and recognize that their hearing simply isn’t what it used to be. Sounds are muffled and you find yourself asking “What?” seemingly all the time. You know in your heart of hearts that something is just not working right, but you just barge ahead in life, oblivious to the need to resolve the problem.

I know, because that was me a few short years ago.

Why do people avoid the inevitable need to have their hearing checked and find a viable solution to the readily evident hearing loss they are incurring? Well, Tony Meyer, a Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist with Dr. Kasewurm’s Professional Hearing Services has some likely answers. He figures that you are willing to live with a hearing loss because you find hearing ads to be:

  • Big and bulky…
  • Uncomfortable to wear…
  • Conspicuous…
  • Troublesome to maintain…
  • An indication that you are old and broken — the old social stigma

Well, Tony and his colleagues want to make sure that whether you are among those who have never gotten your hearing checked because of things like that, or even if you’re among the vast majority of those who would readily benefit from hearing aids but decline to wear them you read on for just a few more lines.

Fear. Not.

Help. Is. On. The. Way.

Dr. Kasewurm’s Professional Hearing Services would like to introduce you to Lyric. It’s a tiny, inconspicuous device that nestles nicely about four millimeters from your eardrum. The Lyric is inserted into the ear canal by a certified, trained hearing professional using a lubricant and forceps. Once in place, the device is capable of remaining in the ear canal for up to 90-days without removal. While it is not a permanent solution to hearing loss, it is definitely a step in the right direction.

Keep in mind, Lyric is anything but traditional. For those who want to continue to enjoy an active, hassle-free life, complete with natural hearing, the Lyric may be the perfect choice for you.

Lyric can be worn in most situations including various sports, while sleeping, while wearing headphones, with a helmet or even in the shower. Remember, once it’s fitted, you can enjoy quality hearing for months at a time and there’s no batter to change.

Lyric is designed to fit mild to moderately-severe hearing loss. It is made from a soft, biocompatible material, designed to contour to the ear canal and ensure natural ventilation and stable, comfortable placement. The placement, by the way, does not require a medical procedure. It is place in the ear and programmed by a Certified Lyric Provider in Dr. Kasewurm’s office. The initial sizing and fitting process for Lyric takes about an hour.

Additionally, if you find it necessary to remove the Lyric device on your own, Dr. Kasewurm’s office will provide a tool called the SoundLync that can be used to take it out or adjust the volume. Keep in mind, however, that it is not designed to be reinserted once removed. You will need to go back to the office for a replacement.

One of the great benefits of Lyric is that you can continue to use external headphones and external hearing protection. If you’re not certain regarding which devices are compatible, ask the Doc. Additionally, the Lyric can be worn while talking on a mobile or fixed-line phone. In fact, it can be worn during most daily activities.

For swimmers, while the Lyric is water resistant, it is not waterproof, therefore swimming and diving are not recommended, however, it can be worn in the shower or during water activities in which your head is not fully submerged. Check with the team at Dr. Kasewurm’s office about protecting them during water activities as swim molds can be worn with the Lyric.

You can fly in aircraft while wearing Lyric and, since the metal components inside are too small to set off metal detectors, you can make through TSA screening hassle-free from that standpoint. One point to note, however, is that Lyric must be removed before having a medical MRI test. You do not have to remove them for standard X-rays or a CT scan. Nevertheless, you should always notify medical personnel of their presence in lab situations.

Wouldn’t you like to hear what you’ve been missing? The InSound Lyric may be the perfect solution you’ve been looking for. Why not find out for sure?
