Honor Credit Union Crafts Financial Partnership for New Animal Shelter

With formal groundbreaking ceremonies rapidly approaching this week, the long-running relationship between Honor Credit Union and the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan has evolved in a business deal as Honor Credit Union becomes a financial partner for the proposed new $2-million shelter about to get underway on M-139 in Royalton Township.

The team at Honor Credit Union and the Humane Society have a long-standing relationship of support ranging from volunteer opportunities to adoption events at local Honor CU branches, and now they will share a business relationship as well when groundbreaking occurs on Thursday afternoon.

In ceremonies on Thursday June 8 at 2pm at 5400 M-139 in St. Joseph, the Humane Society of SWM will embark on the road to their new 12,800 square foot facility thanks to the new financial relationship, because while the capital campaign has amassed well over half of the money necessary to build the shelter, the work is not done yet.

The amazing new shelter will allow Executive Director Jill Svoboda and her team to almost double their capacity.  In addition to the general animal areas, the new shelter will feature medical, sick, and isolation kennels for both cats and dogs.  A huge upgrade on all fronts, the slated new shelter is a monumental moment in the 83-year-old not for profit Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan.

Don Blackmond is Board President of the Humane Society. He says, “From volunteering to give the shelter animals baths to supporting Humane Society events like the recent Village Charcuterie Festival at Watermark Brewery, Honor Credit Union has been a tremendous friend and partner.” He adds, “Working with Honor CU as a financial partner as we approach the ground breaking of the new facility is a great reminder of the benefits of partnering with local financial institutions.”
