Honorees announced for 2023 Southwest Michigan Green Gala

Back after a three-year hiatus, the Southwest Michigan Green Gala will return to the Box Factory in St. Joseph to celebrate sustainability and sustainable business in the region.

The event is an opportunity to spotlight local organizations and professionals that are driving positive outcomes for their environment, community and economy.

This year’s event will recognize five local businesses and institutions with the Sustainable Business of the Year Awards, honoring achievements in clean energy and climate leadership, circular economy and materials management, social equity and community leadership, and water protection.

The 2023 Sustainable Business of the Year Award recipients are:

  • Meijer
  • River Saint Joe
  • Express Employment Professionals of Southwest Michigan
  • City of Benton Harbor
  • City of Niles 

It will also recognize local professionals in the 2023 Sustainable Business Hall of Fame:

The Sustainable Business Hall of Fame honorees:

  • Jim Grandholm, Green Earth Electronics Recycling
  • Rick Villa, Villa Environmental Consulting

Future Sustainable Business Hall of Fame honoree:

  • Emilly Hickmott, Van Buren Conservation District

The Sustainable Business Hall of Fame is a lifetime achievement award that recognizes extraordinary contributions to the growth of sustainable business in Southwest Michigan over the course of a career. The Future Sustainable Business Hall of Fame Award honors an emerging sustainability professional whose work deserves greater recognition.
