Congressman Bill Huizenga has announced the approval of funding for several dredging projects around Southwest Michigan.
Huizenga’s office says the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced its Fiscal Year 2025 Work Plan, and it includes dredging for St. Joseph, South Haven, New Buffalo, Saugatuck, Grand Haven, and more.
The St. Joe work is underway now and comes at a cost of $3.3 million, while work in the South Haven Harbor will run $1.7 million. The New Buffalo dredging comes at a price of $1.4 million.
Huizenga says in addition to dredging operations, the Army Corps will conduct assessments, sediment sampling, and beach nourishment in St. Joseph and assessments in the South Haven Harbor.
Huizenga says all of these projects will help the affected communities reach their full potential.
