Even boldness couldn’t save the fate of an armed robber who held up a Dollar General Store in Cass County last evening. He’s behind bars thanks to K-9 Faust who successfully tracked him down once authorities determined his moves.
Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke says that around 6:30pm last night, Friday, February 28th, 2020, his team was called to investigate an armed robbery at the Dollar General Store on M-60 in Vandlia, northeast of Diamond Lake.
Behnke says that the unidentified man approached a clerk at the Dollar General Store indicating that he had a gun and demanding money. After giving the man money from the cash register, the robber went outside and climbed into an occupied car asking for a ride. The driver refused to provide a ride, so the man left on foot.
When K-9 Faust was deployed in a bid to track the man, he was found a short while later at an address on Mulberry Street in Vandalia, about four or five blocks west of the store. The 32 year old man, whose identity is being withheld pending arraignment, has been arrested and charged with armed robbery. He will appear for arraignment in Cass County’s 4th District Court to answer for his actions.
Behnke, whose unit was assisted on the scene by the Michigan State Police Post at Niles, is asking anyone with additional information on the incident to contact the Cass County Sheriff’s Office with that information.
