Now fully in swing is the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor.

A total of 156 players are taking to the 6,852-yard, par 71 Jack Nicklas-designed course for four days of play. Speaking at Harbor Shores Thursday, Championship Director Brandon Haney told us things teed off early in the day, and the field will be cut to 70 after Friday’s round.

Meanwhile, Southwest Michigan is in the spotlight with a Community Showcase Tent set up across from the North Shore Inn.

“Really just highlighting all the fun things from our breweries and wineries to our beaches, and then we have a community video playing over here that’s highlighting all the live, work, stay, and play opportunities that this great community has to offer,” Haney said.

Haney says with this being the last KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship to be held at Harbor Shores, organizers wanted to go out with a bang.

“It’s been an honor for PGA of America to be welcomed into the community the way we have. It’s really been our unofficial home for the last 12 years. So, we take a lot of pride in everything we’ve accomplished with our friends from KitchenAid and Whirlpool during this time. And it’s just fun to be here one last time and really put on such a great event for all the residents and guests that are coming into the area today.”

In addition to all of the spectators wandering the sprawling Harbor Shores course to see golfers come through, KitchenAid products are on display and demonstrations are taking place. Weary walkers can also stop by the Makers Trail 19th Hole to sample the region’s best craft beverages, barbecue, and more. It’s located near the 17th hole green.

Tickets to the event are still available. You can get them at SrPGAChampionship.com.
