KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship Brings Hall of Fame Musical Acts to BH

When the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship lands at Harbor Shores late next month, golf fans will have the chance to see world renowned major championship winners walking the lush green fairways. So, it’s only appropriate that music fans in Southwest Michigan get the chance to enjoy a world renowned lineup of musicians taking to the stage during Championship Week as well.

To kick things off, Morris Day, best known as the lead singer of The Time, and R&B Music Hall of Fame Inductees, The Whispers, will perform a free concert at the Dwight P. Mitchell City Center Park in downtown Benton Harbor on Thursday, May 24. Residents, families and guests are invited to partake in the sweet sounds of rock, pop and soul that these musical acts have become known for over their long careers. The concert begins with The Whispers at 7 PM, followed immediately by Morris Day and the Time.

Later in the weekend, Northern Michigan favorites, The Accidentals, who were named as one of the top breakout groups in 2015 by Billboard magazine, will take over a newly constructed stage at the Championship entrance on Saturday, May 26, to perform for golf fans. Opening for the Accidentals is another local favorite, Slim Gypsy Baggage, a Southwest Michigan born blend of Soulful, Spirited, Roots Rock. All fans with a valid ticket to the Championship on Saturday will have access to attend this concert, which begins at 5:00 pm. Championship gates and concession stands will remain open through 8:00 pm to accommodate this special musical guest.

Sam Abdelnour, the General Chairman of the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, says, “Each year that the Championship returns to Harbor Shores, we try to bring new and exciting experiences to our community and to the thousands of travelers who descend on Benton Harbor. This year brings even more musical talent right to the gates of our Championship.” Abdelnour adds, “We invite everyone to bring their dancing shoes to see the heart and soul of this community and celebrate what is sure to be a fun week of festivities with these legendary musicians.”

Local businesses and community leaders, including representatives from the PGA of America and KitchenAid, are working together to host and prepare for these community concerts to showcase Michigan’s Great Southwest to the thousands of visitors and golf fans who will be flocking to the area in May. Additional community events in conjunction with the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship are underway and will be announced at a later date.
