Lincoln Twp Car Larcenies on the Rise

Lincoln Township Police are appealing for help in solving a huge spike in larcenies from unlocked cars and other vehicles this month. Nearly 40 thefts have occurred since the beginning of the month, including 15 such incidents earlier this week.

In virtually every instance the vehicles were unlocked, leaving them vulnerable to the thief or thieves causing this mayhem. Police Chief Dan Sullivan says that 15 vehicles fell victim Sunday overnight into Monday this past weekend, the 28th and 29th of August, however since August 2nd there have been 38 total reported larcenies around the township.

The thefts this week were reported off Jericho Road on the west side of the township. Sullivan says fortunately the thieves have largely been in search of loose change and money from consoles, wallets and purses, essentially leaving behind other items of apparent value.

All but one of the reports involved cars, trucks or SUVs that were left unlocked. The Lincoln Township Police are asking not only for help in identifying the person or persons responsible for these incidents…they also strongly encourage the removal of any items visible from outside of the vehicle and that all vehicles that are parked outside overnight be locked.

Additionally, residents who see suspicious activity in their driveways or near any parked vehicle call authorities immediately at 269-429-2444 or for crimes in progress, dial 911.
