Lions Int'l President to Visit St. Joe

The apex of the world of Lionism is the International Presidency, and inasmuch as each International President's term runs for just one year, the demands on the office holder are huge. Every Lions Club member everywhere wants the chance to see the International President and they lust over the opportunity to host a visit by the ultimate leader of the movement. You can understand why local Lions Club members in District 11-B-2 are thunderstruck to welcome their leader this Friday evening at the Vineland Center in St. Joseph.

Chancellor Robert Corlew and his wife Dianne, who hail from Milton, Tennessee, are on a worldwide tour to meet Lions across the globe as part of the 100th Anniversary of the chartering of Lions as a service club. Corlew is the 99th International President to serve and he represents 46,000 Lions Clubs worldwide with more than 1.4-million members.

District 11-B-2 includes 39 Lions Clubs from throughout Michigan's Great Southwest. Local Lions Club officials say Corlew's visit this week is believed to be the first time a sitting International President has ever visit the region.

It's a pretty big deal for local Lions who work diligently to serve their communities through sight, environmental, youth and hunger oriented projects. Next year, the 100th Anniversary of Lions will be celebrated in Chicago, the original birthplace of the Lions Club movement.
