Lake Michigan College has announced the passing of Liz Miller, a transformative figure in Lake Michigan College athletics and a true pioneer in women’s sports.

In a statement, the LMC Vice President Doug Schaffer recounted Miller’s contributions to the school’s athletic programs:

“For 17 years, Liz poured her heart into LMC, working tirelessly to build something extraordinary. She didn’t just coach—she created opportunities where none existed. As the founder of LMC’s women’s athletic program and Michigan’s first female athletic director to oversee both men’s and women’s intercollegiate programs, Liz broke barriers and opened doors for countless student-athletes.

Her dedication was extraordinary. Working tirelessly as a coach, recruiter, and director, Liz led her teams to 12 NJCAA National Tournament appearances and numerous conference, state, and regional titles. Her impressive coaching record of 1,047-331 across Michiana speaks to her expertise, but her true legacy lies in the lives she touched including the athletes she mentored, the coaches she inspired, and the program of excellence she built from the ground up.

As we reflect on Liz’s remarkable life and legacy, we are reminded that her impact reaches far beyond wins, records, or titles. Her vision shaped our college. Her courage reshaped opportunities for women in sports, and her devotion shaped the lives of the students, colleagues, and community members fortunate enough to know her.

LMC’s athletics office suite and our new softball field were both named in honor of Liz, her family, and their contributions to Lake Michigan College. We are grateful she was able to celebrate those honors with family, friends, former athletes, and colleagues. We honor Liz Miller’s remarkable contributions and the enduring legacy she leaves behind. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all who were touched by her leadership and dedication.”

Observances for Miller are planned in South Bend December 19-20.        Details  Here.
