LMC Speed Networking Event to Pair Students & Professionals

***Editor’s Note: An early version of this story indicated that the Speed Networking event was sold out. College officials say that a computer error gave the message of a sell out, however there is still space available for sign ups.

This is a heads up for those interested in Speed Networking at Lake Michigan College, but you will do well to respond immediately.

Gabriella Rosales, Team Event Coordinator & LMC Student, has slated a Speed Networking event for later this month. It was posted by e-mail blast, and despite the computer error indicating a sell out within 24 hours, there are still slots open for sign up.

This Speed Networking event, hosted by the Lake Michigan College Women in Business Club and modeled after speed dating, will provide a way for professionals to share their expertise with the next generation of leaders — the students at LMC.  Rosales and her colleagues labeled the event as, “An opportunity for students to learn more about careers, practice networking, and discover potential internship leads in their fields of interest.”

The event has a March 7th deadline to sign up for the March 22nd actual event. Indications were that less than 24 hours later it was filled to capacity and closed to further registrations, but the computer error was uncovered and the event is open again for registration.

When asked about the concept, organizers posed the question themselves: Why a Speed Networking Event?

The response: In college, we are focused on getting a degree. Something that often goes unnoticed in the flurry of classes, tests, and books is the importance of building a strong professional network. Our goal in hosting this event is to help students become more comfortable and confident, gain career advice, develop professional relationships, and succeed.

The event will take place from 8:30am to 10am on Friday, March 22nd at the Hanson Technology Center on the Lake Michigan College Benton Harbor Campus on Napier Avenue. The idea will feature 50 local professionals and 50 LMC students, and is free to all parties. Click the link below to register:

During the Speed Networking event, professionals and students pair up, get to know each other and discuss what it takes to be a competitive job candidate. Every three minutes, students will be asked to move to the next professional.

Organizers have instructed everyone to, “Simply bring your positive energy, and network.”  Students will be asked to attend a 30-minute prep session prior to the event.

Again, registration for the event has re-opened, so act quickly before an actual sellout occurs.
