The Todd Center at Lake Michigan College will be getting a new boiler this summer.

The LMC Board of Trustees this week approved a contract for the work at a total project cost of $403,000. College President Trevor Kubatzke told us the Todd Center boiler has reached its end of life and the work will be managed around the schedule of students.

We’ve owned the building for a number of years now and of course it was built by Western many, many years ago,” Kubatzke said. “The boilers are just at end of life and anything that’s end of life, it comes and goes and as an educational institution, we can’t go a week without heat or go a week without cooling, so it’s important that we update it when we can. Summer’s the best time for us because we have fewer classes so it just makes sense of this time to get them replaced.”

The 43,400 square foot Todd Center houses LMC’s Business, Education, and Computer Information Systems programs.

The facility was the Western Michigan University Southwest building until 2018, when it was purchased by LMC and became the Todd Center, named after alumnus and donor, Edward J. Todd.
