The annual television broadcast of the Blossomtime Grand Floral Parade this year will continue to be seen on WSBT TV 22/South Bend. Behind the scenes, however, a local Berrien County firm is stepping up to provide the technical production of the parade—a major multi-camera operation in the world of live, on scene TV production.
TPC Technologies, Inc., owned by Ken and Pam Kuespert of Niles has been quietly growing into a major player in the television production field, both in Michiana and in Chicago. TPC provided the live video production at the past two Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards, where Chicago and regional TV stations compete for recognition.
TPC also provides all the live video production for concerts and other big events at Four Winds Casinos in New Buffalo and South Bend. And, they did that this year for the Blossomtime Pageant at Lake Michigan College Mendel Center .
The big difference Saturday at the Grand Floral Parade, of course, is that it is outdoors and spread out over a wider area, making for special challenges for the production crew. Ken Kuespert told us they had been eyeing the Parade as an opportunity for awhile, and are excited about taking over the production aspect from TV 22. TV news anchors will still be the ‘faces’ of the broadcast, doing interviews and highlighting the floats, bands and other entries that make the Blossom Parade special in the eyes of viewers.
WSBT TV 22 will broadcast the Parade starting at 1 pm Saturday. Many people who attend the parade every year now set their digital recorders so they can get another look, or a closer look, at their favorite floats or high school bands, in addition to their cell phone recordings.
