Longtime downtown St. Joseph retail space enters new chapter

A longtime downtown St. Joseph retail space is entering a new chapter under new ownership.

The Downtown St. Joseph Antique Mall on State Street officially transitioned to new ownership on January 1 and is now operating under the name Outta the Ashes. The business is owned by local entrepreneur Corey Carolla, who is also the owner of Waterfront House of Framing & Fashion. Both businesses operate under the Waterfront Design Group.

According to a social media post from Carolla, the ownership change is designed to be seamless for both customers and vendors. The store is reopening Friday (Jan. 2), with its existing dealers remaining in place, allowing business to continue without interruption during the transition.

Outta the Ashes plans to build on the antique mall’s foundation while expanding its scope and visibility. Future plans include growing the dealer base, increasing marketing and community awareness, and developing digital and e-commerce platforms to broaden the store’s reach beyond downtown St. Joseph.

“Looking ahead, Outta the Ashes will focus on expanding its dealer base, increasing awareness, and introducing digital and e-commerce platforms. Plans also include broadening offerings to feature large-scale art, metal and sculptural works, ceramics, sports memorabilia, and statement design pieces, creating a more curated and dynamic shopping experience,” according to the announcement.

The business says it is actively seeking dealers and creatives interested in participating in the next phase of the store’s growth. Carolla emphasized that the vision for Outta the Ashes centers on creativity, craftsmanship, and maintaining strong ties to the downtown St. Joseph community.
