It all started with a young man who had experience in tires, and a gift for customer service– Bud Wade.
Having worked in the Tire industry, including 20 years directly with Firestone, it was in 1975 that Bud Wade founded M & W Tire with a clear vision—to serve the people of Berrien County with reliable, honest, and friendly auto care. From day one, M&W stood for community-first values: faith, trust, quality work, and treating every customer like family.
Initially, M & W purchased the Yerington Tire Company, with locations on Hinkley in Benton Harbor, and on Niles Avenue in St. Joe. But Bud had a dream- a much BIGGER dream- having ONE massive location that could service many more people, more vehicles, even semi-trucks- and grow to be THE largest Auto Service Center and Tire Superstore in the area!
That big dream came came true in November 1978- with a huge new facility on M-139. M & W’s new location included over 20,000 square feet- with 8 bays for Cars & Light Trucks, plus 4 large commercial bays in the back with 8 additional Lifts.
M & W’s business grew substantially over the years- Offering not just Firestone, but also tires from most major brands, including Michelin. They also have offered nearly any kind of Auto Service imaginable- from changing your oil, to changing your engine. Sons Adam and Mark Wade joined the business as young men- and now a third generation, Bud’s grandson Aaron Wade, is also an important part of M & W Auto Service and Tire.
As M & W celebrates 50 years in business, they reflect back on good times and challenging times- but during both, they have always striven to put the customer’s needs first- and in response, their customers have remained constant and faithful. As their slogan maintains- “Your Family’s Safety is Our Family’s Business”.
In celebrating 50 years in business, M & W is planning a huge celebration on Friday September 5th– When they’ll welcome the famous race car driver Mario Andretti! Also visiting will be the amazing Monster Truck BIGFOOT! Redamak’s Food Truck will be on-site, and there will be give-aways, exhibits, and fun for everyone!
