One veteran helping out another. That’s the concept behind a ‘maker’s day’ planned in Niles over the Veteran’s Day weekend.
On Sunday, November 12, from 10am to 3pm, Sticky Spoons Jam will host the inaugural Veteran Makers Market, featuring 10 small, local, veteran-owned businesses. The veteran makers will be displaying and selling their work, including paintings and photos, woodwork, and leatherwork.
Sticky Spoons jams and jellies will also be available for purchase. Every guest will receive a raffle ticket for every veteran maker they support with a purchase.
Aiye Akhigbe, the founder and owner of Sticky Spoons Jam, is a Navy veteran. She created this market to continue her commitment to promoting veteran-made products. Her store already carries products made by six veterans and her hope is to grow that to 12 – 15 makers by 2025.
Akhigbe said, “As a veteran, I know how much support I have received in growing my business and I want to pass it on. With Veterans Day on the horizon, I decided to create a Veteran Makers Market, not only to support veteran-owned businesses but also to provide the community an opportunity to meet and chat with local veterans. And every purchase helps support a veteran.”
Sticky Spoons Store is located at 11801 Pucker St, Niles MI. The market will run 10am to 3pm Sunday November 12, with coffee served all day.
Veterans and active duty servicemembers with ID always receive a 10% discount on regular purchases at Sticky Spoons.
