More than 600,000 men and women in Michigan are engaged in the world of manufacturing…a large contingent right here in Michigan’s Great Southwest. The employers of those men and women — the manufacturing community of Michigan — are responsible for fully one fifth of the gross state product of the state of Michigan. They hold a significant voice in the development of state policy and have released today their blueprint for what they hope will be the ongoing drive to build on the manufacturing-driven economic recovery of our state.
The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) has today released Manufacturing’s Plan for Michigan. The legislative and regulatory agenda provides a clear blueprint for fostering a more competitive manufacturing sector during the 2017-2018 Legislative Session and bolstering Michigan’s long-term economic recovery.
Chuck Hadden is President & CEO of the MMA. He says, “Our state is experiencing incredible momentum; leading the nation in new manufacturing job growth while enjoying the lowest unemployment rate of the last 15 years — but more needs to be done.” He adds, “We need continuous improvement to meet the competitive challenges in an ever-evolving global market.”
Manufacturing’s Plan for Michigan provides specific policy suggestions in seven key issue areas for the 2017-2018 Legislative Session, including:

- Workforce Development Policy
- Talent Development
- Energy Policy
- Environmental Policy
- Health Care Policy
- Regulatory Policy
Mike Johnston is Vice President of Government Affairs for the MMA.
