Maritime Museaum Receives $55,000 Grant from Entergy

The Michigan Maritime Museum has announced that they have received a $55,000 grant from Entergy towards their Launching a Legacy capital campaign.

The Museum and Entergy have a bit of history together as the previous building that housed the center of operation for the Museum once served as the visitor center for Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Covert. The Museum purchased that building for $1 and it served as their hub of activity for 36 years.

As a rapidly growing organization, the Museum recognized the need for more space in which to house exhibits, classrooms, offices and other multifunctional spaces to fit their growing needs. They had simply outgrown the ~4,000 sq ft structure. That building was demolished in September of 2021 and construction of their new building, the Maritime Heritage Center, has begun with an expected completion date of summer 2022.

Museum Executive Director Patti Reinert said, “We are proud to recognize the support of Entergy as they re-invest in a community and region we both serve. We cannot move forward without acknowledging how far we’ve come and who helps us get here. Thank you, Entergy, for believing in us then and helping light the way into our future. “
