After nearly five years in downtown St. Joseph, Maxwell Boutique is closing its doors.
Owner Kelly Pline announced on social media that the women’s clothing and accessories shop at 318 State Street will soon shut down, marking the end of a venture that began in 2020 amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Moody on the Market previously reported, Pline opened the business after losing her job that summer, stepping in to take over the space previously occupied by Friends by Design. At the time, she called it a “dream opportunity,” combining her love of fashion and community connection. The store quickly built a following for its “casually chic” style — outfits designed to take customers from “the soccer field to date night.”
Named after Pline’s youngest son, Maxwell Boutique has offered apparel in a wide range of sizes along with handbags, jewelry, and accessories.
Pline said she’s grateful for the support of loyal shoppers who helped the boutique thrive through a difficult retail climate. Details about the exact closing date or any future plans for the space have not yet been announced. Until the doors close, the store is posting specials and deep discounts for remaining inventory.
