A successful restaurant food truck in the area is adding a permanent location in Benton Harbor with guidance from Cornerstone Alliance Entrepreneurial Services (the new name for the Women’s Business Center at Cornerstone).
‘ Just Like Momma’s’, located at 456 S. Fair Avenue in Benton Harbor, will celebrate the grand opening of its new restaurant on Friday, February 27 at 4:30 p.m. The new location marks the latest expansion for husband-and-wife team Josef and Tracy-Ann Bullocks, in partnership with Purpose Church Ministries, building on the success of their existing catering and food truck operations.
The Bullocks’ say the restaurant introduces vibrant Caribbean cuisine to the local dining scene while creating new opportunities for community connection and employment. The new location is expected to create eight to ten jobs and provide hands-on training opportunities for individuals interested in developing culinary and hospitality skills.
In a release Cornerstone and the Bullocks said that as part of their community investment, the forthcoming Hospitality Education and Training program will serve as a continuation of the Jobs for Life program, extending its mission of workforce readiness and personal development. The program will be open and available to the entire community, offering participants a chance to gain real-world experience in hospitality and customer service within an uplifting environment.
‘Just Like Momma’s’ menu offerings will be influenced by Josef’s missionary travels to Jamaica and Africa. Guests can expect a blend of Caribbean and soul food favorites, including jerk chicken, Jamaican oxtails, Caribbean goat, and reggae ribs, along with themed nights featuring live music, comedy, and karaoke.
Josef Bullocks is certified in Jobs for Life, which has a motto of “Uplifting humanity through the dignity of work—one city, one community, one life at a time.”
Tracy-Ann Bullocks is a recent graduate of the Business Plan Certified program through Cornerstone Alliance Entrepreneurial Services, a program designed to help entrepreneurs strengthen their business foundation and prepare for growth.
“Cornerstone Alliance Entrepreneurial Services is proud of recent Business Plan Certified graduate, Tracy-Ann Bullocks, and her husband, Josef, as they broaden their hospitality venture with Just Like Momma’s new restaurant,” said Brandy Jaquez, Director of Entrepreneurial Services at Cornerstone Alliance. “Enriching our community with good food and entertainment is a key contribution this new business will bring.”
The original Just Like Momma’s, founded in 2018, was inspired by Josef Bullocks’ mother, Mary Bullocks. Since then, the business has expanded to include a mobile food truck and catering services. The new brick-and-mortar location reflects the couple’s continued growth and vision.
“As pastor of Purpose Church Ministries and founders of Just Like Momma’s, our goal is to bring the community together in a place that celebrates culture while offering great food and entertainment for everyone to enjoy,” said Josef Bullocks.
Just Like Momma’s will be open:
Wednesday & Thursday: 5 p.m. – 12 a.m.
Friday & Saturday: 5 p.m. – 2 a.m.
