A mural for the Benton Harbor Arts District and ongoing support for the annual Coastline Children’s Film Festival in Michigan’s Great Southwest have each been granted $4,000 in a new round of Minigrant Awards from the 2021 Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs through the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, the clearinghouse for our region.

The Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo (ACGK) has announced the recipients of the first round of minigrants for projects and the completed round of grants for professional and organizational development.

The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs coordinates grants to arts and culture organizations, cities and municipalities, and other nonprofit organizations to encourage, develop, and facilitate an enriched environment of artistic, creative, and cultural activity in Michigan.

The Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo serves as the re-granting agency for Region 8, which includes seven counties in Michigan’s Southwest Prosperity Region: Berrien, Branch, Cass, Calhoun, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren. The minigrant applications are reviewed by a panel of artists, residents, and organizational leaders from the region using criteria set by the MCACA.

Minigrants provide up to $4,000 for locally developed, high-quality arts and cultural projects as well as up to $1,500 for professional and organizational development. These are special opportunities to address local arts and cultural needs, as well as increasing public access to arts and culture. Minigrants support a broad range of artistic expression from all cultures through projects which preserve, produce, or present traditional or contemporary arts and culture and/or arts education.

Round II Region 8 funding will be available for projects only. The application deadline for Round II funding is January 15, 2021. For additional information you can visit MCACA’s website: http://michiganbusiness.org/industries/mcaca or ACGK’s website: http://kalamazooarts.org/grants.
