New Name for SJ CPA Team

When the financial health and well-being of your business are on the line, you want a solid relationship with the team tracking the numbers. When your tax liability is on the line, you want that team to be backed by the resources to get the job done. In essence, you want your advisors to provide reliable management solutions for you.

Meanwhile, when the members of the team providing those solutions are named Robert, Michael and Stephen, the acronym of RMS Advisors becomes a natural fit. Such is the case for Robert Buchholz, Michael TePastte and Stephen Deem, the principal players for the newly named RMS Advisors, PLLC — with the dual-purpose initials standing not only for their names, but also for their pledge of Reliable Management Solutions and Advisory services tailored to each individual client.

RMS Advisors Certified Public Accountants is the new branding for what has been known in the community for a number of years as  Wilber Townshend & Associates and over the past year as Wilber Townshend Buchholz. Wilber Townshend founder Steve Wilber died in February of 2014, but his partners have kept the firm strong and growing. The forerunner to the group is the former Barnes & Associates headed up by Richie Barnes who is still Senior Relationship Manager for the firm headquartered locally at 500 Renaissance Drive in St. Joseph in Suite 104 as well as in new digs at 4175 Parkway Place Drive, SW in Suite 100 in Grandville, outside of Grand Rapids.

Buchholz, TePastte and Deem are the partners in the Certified Public Accounting Firm which now has a total team of 23 associates, seven of which are based in the Edgewater neighborhood in St. Joseph. Barnes has been active in the accounting community for more than 49 years now in St. Joseph.

While the name is new to clients and newcomers alike, the firm is solidly entrenched with more than 35 years of service under one name or another, and this is simply a fresh new beginning to more adequately portray the advanced body of work performed routinely by the partners and their associates. The CPA team naturally provides accounting and tax services, but goes well beyond that scope of service with a full suite of Business Advisory Services.

Clients range from those in need of a single tax return to those in search of a comprehensive audit of the entire business from top to bottom. RMS Advisors routinely provide business consulting and valuations for businesses large and small. The mission of RMS Advisors is "delivering high quality, personalized services that enable you to preserve and grow your wealth and improve your well-being."

The St. Joseph office of RMS has been anchored in the Edgewater District for many years, while the northern office relocated just last week from quarters in Jenison to the new site in Grandville to better accommodate staff and clients alike.

Business services offered by RMS Advisors also include employee benefit plans, businss transition planning and execution, and payroll services among other options, while individual clients can also avail themselves of trusts and estate planning services in addition to tax preparation and planning. The firm serves clients in almost every state in the union and Washington D.C.

All three partners in RMS Advisors are Certified Public Accountants, and Michael TePastte also carries certification as a Certified Fraud Examiner, a designation that is especially helpful in forensic audits and the like. Meanwhile, Deem also carries certification as a Certified Valuation Analyst, very helpful in analyzing the true value of businesses, transactions and other dealings.
