Next Berrien County Recycling Event Set for August 12th

If your collection of “all things needing to be recycled” is getting out of hand in the basement, garage, or even in your hall closets, the team at Berrien County is gearing up for another major recycling event on Wednesday, August 12th to help you alleviate the accumulating things.

Jill Adams, Environmental Property Manager for the Berrien County Parks & Recreation Department, tells us that Berrien County residents can properly recycle and dispose of household chemicals, home electronic equipment, and foam on Wednesday, August 12th at Love Creek County Park, located at 9292 Huckleberry Road in Berrien Center. The community recycling event will rujn from 3 pm to 7 pm that afternoon and evening. The event is drive-thru only and participants must remain in their vehicles at all times.

Accepted foam items include:

  • Foam coolers
  • Egg cartons
  • Foam block packaging
  • Clean foam “to-go” containers
  • Styrofoam
  • Packing peanuts, however, are NOT accepted.

Accepted household chemicals include:

  • Garage oils
  • Chemicals and cleaners
  • Yard and garden chemicals
  • Oil-based paint and stains
  • Home medical waste such as pills and sharps or needles
  • Batteries of all sizes
  • Fluorescent light bulbs

Accepted electronics include household items that have a cord or that run on batteries, including:

  • Computer equipment
  • Televisions
  • Appliances
  • Phones
  • Power tools, etc.

There is a fee of $20 per television and $10 per computer monitor. All other items are accepted at no cost to residents.

This event is for Berrien County residents only. Waste from businesses and institutions is not accepted at the County’s household collections. Also not accepted is Latex Paint. Do not bring latex paint to this collection event. Latex paint can be dried out and placed in with ordinary curbside trash.
