Nobody wants a close shave with the law, and now even Berrien County Sheriff’s Deputies have elected to avoid the shave to benefit several charities in the region. “No Shave November,” has turned into “No Shave December” as well for several members of the Sheriff’s team, and a couple of charities are the beneficiary of that facial neglect.
Berrien County Undersheriff Chuck Heit tells us that in November and December of this year Sheriff Bailey authorized members of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office to participate in “No Shave November and December.” However, you had to pay to play. In order to participate in the event members of the Sheriff’s Office had to pay $50.00 each month for the privilege, and the resulting funds have been donated to selected charities as a result. The Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Berrien Community Foundation in providing those funds to the charities.
For the month of November the charity that was selected was Carol’s Hope. Carol’s Hope provides a supervised and supportive setting for individuals with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Fifty-four (54) members of the Sheriff’s Office participated in the “No Shave November” raising a total of $2,700.00, and Sheriff Bailey met with Carol Stockman today, December 17, 2019 to present her with the check.
For the month of December the charity that was selected was the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Michigan. Each year, the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge series challenges thousands of brave jumpers at numerous locations around the state. All funds raised go towards year-round sports training and athletic competition for nearly 23,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Michigan. Forty-Nine (49) members of the Sheriff’s Office participated in the “No Shave December” raising a total of $2,450.00. Those funds will be donated towards the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office team that will be taking the plunge on February 1, 2020 at the Watermark Brewing Company.
