North Pier Brewing Hosts Howl-O-Ween to Benefit Bark Angels Therapy Dogs

North Pier Brewing Company of Benton Harbor is likely already the most dog-friendly brew pub in the state of Michigan, but they’ll really amp things up and go to the dogs next weekend during their 2nd Annual Howl-o-Ween event to benefit The Bark Angels Therapy Dogs from The Petz Carlton. That’s a week from this Sunday.

North Pier is also tremendously family-friendly, so make plans to take the kids, the dogs, and the whole family for an afternoon of fun, great food, live football on the TV and, naturally, some outstanding North Pier Brewing Company craft beers on tap.

On Sunday, October 29th, from 2:30pm to 5:30pm, the second annual Howl-o-Ween extravaganza will fill the house with grilled burgers, brats and hot dogs while the pampered pups parade their stuff in full costumed regalia. Pet costumes are strongly encouraged, and if the kids want to do a little Halloween dress rehearsal, there will be Trunk-or-Treating opportunities for both the kids and the pets.

Nobody has to miss out on their NFL Football fix, because the flat-screens in the house will be tuned in to all the live action, and during huddles, replays and commercial breaks you can bid on a whole host of silent auction items donated to the Bark Angels Therapy Dog cause.

The Howl-o-Ween donation is just $10 per person or $20 for the family and you can pay by cash or credit at the door.

Anybody who has ever enjoyed the companionship and unconditional love of a dog can certainly understand why our four-legged friends are frequently called upon to help people with physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges in life. The very demeanor of most suffering folks changes dramatically in the presence of a friendly dog in the house. That’s why the Petz Carlton created the Bark Angels Therapy Dog Program in the first place. This fundraising party is designed to help sustain the program.

The Petz Carlton is a doggie daycare and training facility and their ancillary program of The Bark Angels will benefit from the Howl-o-Ween party at North Pier Brewing.

Petz Carlton operator Helen Fasano and her Bark Angels partner Marcia Fettig help patients and physical therapists through one-on-one sessions with the Bark Angel dogs. They are certified therapy dogs who inspire communication, sensory processing, mobility and social skills for all ages. They also do extensive programs with teens, youth and also major work with Autistic children.

Each of the Bark Angels certified dogs is handled by a trained volunteer, and their programs are developed with health care professionals to create specific movements with the patients needs in mind.

The goals of the Bark Angels are to:

  • Create a large volunteer base with or without a dog in the program…
  • Create a donor base through fundraisers (such as the Garage Sale) and other events…
  • Continue to provide the program free of charge to those who need it…

Armed with the vision of “Helping our community one paw at a time,” the Bark Angels hope to see you at next Sunday’s Howl-o-Ween event at North Pier, and they appreciate your support.
