Pachyderm Pedalers expanding mission to promote cycling, build community

An area cycling club is expanding its mission to do more to promote recreational cycling, build community, and support local charitable causes.

The Pachyderm Pedalers, a longtime cycling club based in Stevensville has announced that it has officially received 501(c)(3) non-profit status and that will allow the club to expand its mission.

“This milestone gives us greater ability to serve our community and connect more people to the joy of cycling,” said Greg Collins, President and Founder of the Pachyderm Pedalers. “We’re excited for what lies ahead.”

In a statement from the club, they said as a newly recognized non-profit, the Pachyderm Pedalers can now accept tax-deductible donations, apply for grants, and further partner with local organizations to promote health, sustainability, and equity through cycling.

The group said its origins began with five riders in 2017 gathering for a weekly bike ride and has since grown to 200+ riders each Thursday. They accommodate riders on any bike with pace groups from a slow roll to 23+ mph hour.

Their annual fundraising event, TheBeer:30, will be held September 6 to benefit Cycle-Re-Cycle of Benton Harbor—a nonprofit organization that provides refurbished bikes, bike education, and repair resources to people of all ages and income levels.
