Paxton Media, owner of H-P, buys Niles & Dowagiac newspapers

The Kentucky firm that owns the Herald-Palladium newspaper is buying the papers in Niles and Dowagiac, the Niles Daily Star and Dowagiac Daily News.

According to Crain’s Grand Rapids Business, Paxton Media Group of Paducah, Kentucky has acquired Leader Publications, owned for about 30 years by Boone Newsmedia, Inc.  The Boone family has recently sold several  newspapers in Alabama as well. .

Paxton owns about 120 newspapers, both daily and weekly, in the Midwest and Southeast.  They include the Elkhart Truth, LaPorte County Herald-Dispatch, Harbor Country News, South Haven Tribune and Grand Haven Tribune.

The brokerage firm Cribb & Associates released these comments from Paxton Media Group on the acquisition:

It appears the transaction closed at the end of August.
