Coming up this Friday at The Livery in Benton Harbor will be the next installment of PechaKucha, the program that features rapid fire presentations from a variety of speakers on topics of their choice.
The Krasl Art Center’s Jamie Balkin tells us PechaKucha is Japanese for “chit chat,” and the presentations feature 20 slides, 20 seconds per slide, in six minutes and 40 seconds each. She says PechaKucha really attracts some crowds.
“They’re very popular,” Balkin said. “We average between 150 to 250 attendees each time we do them. This is volume 34 for us, and PechaKucha Button Harbor St. Joe is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.”
Balkin says PechaKucha can appeal to just about anyone.
“There are so many amazing presentations, you just never know a person’s story until they get up and share it. And what’s really neat about PechaKucha is you have all walks of life, all age groups.”
This Friday’s PechaKucha will be outside The Livery starting at 8:30 p.m. Balkin says they’ll be serving up cash beer and pizza. Tickets are on sale now for $5, with all proceeds supporting future PechaKucha events.
