Pokagons Offer Easter Gift to the Needy

Easter dinner this year will be a little brighter for hundreds of needy families around Michigan's Great Southwest and into Northwest Indiana thanks to the generosity of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and their Four Winds Casino operations across the region.

The Pokagons have arranged for the donation of more than 1,000 meals for those in need across the region. The meals are being delivered under the auspices of the Meals on Wheels of Southwestern Michigan program for families in multiple communities. Each meal includes a ham, potato au gratin, corn, green beans, rolls, and a pound cake. Meals on Wheels of Southwestern Michigan is a non-profit organization helping seniors remain in their own homes by providing meals through the use of both community sites and direct-delivered meals taken right to their homes.

A number of residents in each of the following communities will be receiving meals:

  • Benton Harbor, Michigan
  • Buchanan, Michigan
  • Dowagiac, Michigan
  • Niles, Michigan
  • South Bend, Indiana
  • Michigan City, Indiana
  • LaPorte, Indiana
  • Pokagon Elders will also be receiving meals.

John Warren is Chairman of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, owners of the Four Winds Casino operations in New Buffalo, Hartford and Dowagiac. He says, “We are deeply committed to the Michiana community and its residents, and are pleased to provide these meals in time for the Easter Holiday.” Warren also noted, “We are also pleased that our employees at Four Winds Casinos are providing the food, packing the boxes, and delivering them to those-in-need.”
