It looks like Lake Michigan College has am early frontrunner for the position of president, just a month after current President Trevor Kubatzke announced his retirement.
The LMC Board of Trustees says it’s considering Dr. Ken Flowers, the executive vice president, for the post and is inviting the entire community to attend a forum with him this month.
Kubatzke tells us the board has hired the Pauly Group out of Illinois to lead the search for a president, but much time and money could be saved if an internal candidate fits the bill. So, there will be an interview with Flowers on October 16.
“The Pauly Group will be here for the interviews on the 16th to evaluate and get feedback, and they’ll provide that to the board,” Kubatzke said. “If Dr. Flowers does not rise to the top, they will go out for a national search. But if they find that he meets the qualifications, I think they will probably appoint him president.”
LMC held a forum with the public last month as it began the search for a new leader. We asked Kubatzke what people are saying they want.
“I think they just want what everybody wants. Transparency, collaboration, communication. Those are the top things that come up every time.”
Everyone’s invited to come and hear Dr. Flowers share his vision for Lake Michigan College and to ask him questions at the forum from 6 to 7 p.m. on the 16th. It’ll be held at the Todd Center on the LMC Benton Township campus.
If Flowers is selected as president, he’ll get plenty of time to prepare because Kubatzke’s retirement won’t be until December 31, 2026.
