Quick Police Work Nabs BH Main Street Subway Robber

An armed robber struck the Benton Harbor Subway restaurant at the wrong time last night and was quickly captured and taken into custody by the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety.

Deputy Director Michael Clark says that last night, Tuesday, October 15th at approximately 8:45PM, officers from his department responded to a report of a gunman holding up the staff at the Subway restaurant located at 667 W. Main Street across from Whirlpool’s Riverview Campus.

Unfortunately for that gunman, Benton Harbor officers were already in that area at the time of the holdup, and as a result the man was located very quickly. The accused robber is a 21 year old Benton Harbor man, and he was taken to the Berrien County Jail.

Clark says that the weapon he used, a pistol, was also located and recovered. During the course of the arrest the money taken from the register was also located and recovered.  His name is being withheld pending arraignment.

The Subway restaurant is operating on regular hours today.

Anyone with information on the case is requested to contact the Tipline at 269-927-0293, Crime Stoppers at 1-800342-STOP (7867) or via the BHDPS app that can be found in your cell phone app store.

The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety was assisted on the scene by the Michigan State Police Mobile Crime Unit during the course of the investigation.
