Reminder: Extra Long Security Check-In Time at SBN This Week

As the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) continues installation of new 3-D scanners, travelers are reminded to arrive at least three hours prior to their flight’s departure and to check carry-on luggage to help expedite the screening process through March 4 at South Bend International Airport (SBN).

The security checkpoint opens at 3:45 a.m. Travelers are advised to arrive at SBN as early as possible; especially those traveling on morning flights when the highest volume of people are being processed through the checkpoint.

“We appreciate your patience as we continue to bring improved technology to SBN,” Indiana Federal Security Director Aaron Batt said. “Arriving early, checking bags when possible, and leaving all prohibited items out of your carry-on will help keep the line moving and result in a better experience for all passengers.”

The state-of-the-art advanced technology Computed Tomography (CT) checkpoint scanner provides 3-D images that TSA officers can manipulate to get a better view of a bag’s contents and often clear items without having to open a carry-on bag. The installation is expected to be finished Friday, and normal checkpoint operations should resume Saturday.

“People are used to no lines at SBN,” said SBN CEO and Executive Director Mike Daigle. “We are currently experiencing long lines due to the new equipment installation. I want to reassure travelers that this is a temporary experience.”
