Set for this Saturday is the eighth annual Benton Harbor Juneteenth Parade and Celebration.

Juneteenth event co-chair Ethel Clark Griffin tells us the whole community is invited to come and celebrate history and emancipation at Dwight P. Mitchell City Center Park. Everything kicks off with the parade to the park.

“At 1 p.m. we will start marching from the Whirlpool building on Main Street and we will march all the way down to the Dwight Mitchell City Center Park, which is also on Main Street, and then we start immediately with the celebration,” Griffin said.

Clark Griffin says there are more than 50 entries in the parade. Then the celebration at City Center Park will feature more than 30 vendors, community organizations, food, dancing, trivia, and of course, music.

“And then we’ll have entertainment performers. We have a DJ. We have, I believe, four or five performances this year, and the headliner, it’s called Work in Progress. It’s a band called The Work in Progress.”

They’ll have line dancing lessons, honors for Benton Harbor residents for their accomplishments, and activities for the kids.

Clark Griffin says they’ll have several hundred people in attendance for the day. Again, it all kicks off at 1 p.m. at the Whirlpool building and then heads over to City Center Park on Saturday.
