SJ Builder Turned Inventor Has a Hit With New Dryer Vent Kit

When you’ve been building first-class, custom-designed homes for as long as Dale Christie, it’s inevitable that you’re going to find better ways to do virtually everything in the house. That’s why in this day and age you can not only call Mr. Christie a professional building contractor — you can also call him an inventor.

Earlier this year Christie debuted his new Dryer Vent Made Easy at the International Builders Show held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, and it drew a great response.

As Christie’s website points out, Dryer Vent Made Easy “is a better way to connect your dryer to the wall. It saves space, is easy to use, and keeps you safe.”

Christie has been building houses under the Christie Custom Builders brand for more than 35 years across Michigan’s Great Southwest. His custom built homes have long been high on the gold standard rank of professional contractors in the region. Christie himself will tell you that until he perfected his new invention, the installation of standard dryer connections was a “consistent problem in every house we built.”

His new Dryer Vent Made Easy eliminates the wasted space behind a dryer caused by those bulky flex pipes we’ve all grown accustomed to seeing and wrangling with even as home owners. With Dryer Vent Made Easy, Christie says you simply slide the dryer into the rubber seal in the wall without reaching behind to make the connection. He says, “It allows your dryer to push tight to the wall and flushes up the front of your washer and dryer.”

The Dryer Vent Made Easy website notes, “Our product increases your dryer’s efficiency and safety which saves you money and helps our environment. Welcome to the future of dryer vent installation.”

The problem Christie and his colleagues continually ran into while installing residential dryers was that the clamped flex pipe made it hard to get behind the dryer and would always kink and leak. He says, “There was also an issue of space. The dryer would stick out farther than the washer next to it, adjacent closet doors wouldn’t be able to close, and there was a useless seven inch gap between the dryer and the wall.”

Dale had been thinking about a better way for dryers to attach for 20 years, and eventually decided to draft some ideas. Over a few months, Dale and his son Scott traded drawings until they found the best design. Next, they experimented with a few different prototypes and came up with a product that uses the best combination of materials. Six months later, production began and units were ready to be ordered in large quantities.

The Christie family is proud that the invention is made in America and is essentially a grassroots company that was founded on a solution to a real problem that exists in every household.

The Dryer Vent Made Easy website, which includes comprehensive tutorials and YouTube videos showcasing how the product works and should be installed also helps Christie’s fellow builders eliminate an everyday problem on their own job sites, reduce the number of house fires caused by trapped lint in kinked flex pipe, and helps improve dryer efficiency by creating a stream-line flow from the dryer to the home’s exhaust.

Needless to say, they install the product in every Christie Custom Builders home site.
