The Southwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees has voted to appoint Dr. Klint Pleasant of Rochester Hills to the position of college president.

The board interviewed Pleasant on Monday. He’s currently the senior vice president and special assistant to the president at Rochester Christian University in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Pending contract negotiations, Dr. Pleasant would become SMC’s ninth president, replacing Dr. Joe Odenwald, who stepped down in May to become the president of Alma College.

Dr. Pleasant has worked in higher education for 28 years. SMC says during his 20 years in college administration, Pleasant has managed enrollment, athletics, development, as well as had leadership responsibilities in retention, student mentoring, and community relations. He has also served as an instructor in the classroom.

Pleasant’s start date at SMC will be determined in the new year.
